Finaly project: infographics galore

I have been a big fan of infographics for a long time now and and have always marveled at the ingenuity it takes to make one. Yet someone i never had to bright idea to try and make one myself (maybe due to lack of idea or such). For class though we were instructed to create one. Prefacing this project we did practice working on a grid.

Next we started on the infographic itself. The premise for it was that we were supposed to take some kind of story (a day in our lives, a movie, etc.) and then display this information using graphics and small amounts of text. For mine I decided to do something with the movie/graphic novel V for Vendetta. From this I decided to make a infographic from the investigators' point of view and make it a case file. I included things to one side listing details of his MO and the other side included a timeline of V's life known by the investigator's
I'm pretty happy with what I have come up with:

Public awareness poster: be healthy!

For this project we had to come up with a creative solution to encourage people to be healthy in a positive way.

For my poster I played on the idea that smoking is bad for you and used that to insinuate that over eating and unhealthy eating can be just as bad as smoking.

Logo project funtime

The next project for graphic design (don't worry I have not forgot about posting my finished symbol design I just simply forgot to scan it) is a logo project. We were instructed to come up with a company and brief for that company in designing the logo for it. My company I chose was a publishing company named AfterWords Publishing. For my logo I created a modified and abstracted interobang (the amalgamation of a question mark and an exclamation mark). After creating the logo we then had to digitize the logo and apply it to letterhead, a business card and envelopes.

Symbol project

The second project for my design class is to draw an everyday objext. Once we have this object drawn in a realistic style our challenge is to turn it into a symbol. We’ll do two things to do this. We’ll make a hand done drawing with india ink and we’ll make a vector version of the india ink drawing.

The symbol is to be all black and white.

For my symbol I’ve chosen a lamp in my house. It’s the typical shape of a lamp you’d imagine. It has a cylindrical shade, a metal base and a metal pull chain that hangs down past the shade.

At this stage I’ve completed the realistic drawing and will start on the symbol shortly.

First Project

Not much This is a blog primarily for my Intro to Graphic Design class. I'll use it to share progress on assignments, roughs, and the finished assignments. Other than that I may also share work from my typography class and work done on my own time. At the summation of my graphic design class I hope to maintain this blog for future years to track my work and help me stay on point with the art I should be doing (at least for my college career).
So with this in mind I'll share the information I've acquired for the first project I worked on. The project was to create a work of art based on a famous graphic designer (or illustrator). Also part of the assignment was to include a powerpoint and paper talking about the artist.
I chose the graphic designer Chip Kidd. He's a graphic designer and writer. He has mostly designed book covers such as the Jurassic Park book cover.

From here my obvious choice was to design a book cover as well. I used a high contrast self-portrait shown only partially with the title of the book and the authors name in the black portion when the face is covered. This was modeled after a cover Kidd designed for one of his own books. He did a self-portrait in high contrast with only the top half of the face showing and the rest being reserved for pertinent cover text.
